Mercy is in P.4 (fourth grade). Her favorite subject is mathematics. She enjoys skipping around with her friends. She wants to be an engineer someday.       

Her mother brought her and her sister to live at the project and go to school, they began as paying students but when her father abandoned them, they no longer could afford to pay for school fees. Mercy and her sister stay at the orphanage/project year round as her mother cannot afford to bring them home over the holidays. She has three sisters and one brother. Two of her sisters and her brother live with her mother in Eastern Uganda. Her brother is 8 years old and is mentally and physically handicapped. Because of his disability he cannot move or speak. Mercy's father didn't want to provide for him so he left the family. Her mother struggles to provide for her children alone.
