Joel is from the Muganda tribe is Eastern Uganda. He speaks Luganda and is learning English. Joel's mother abandoned him, so his father tries to provide for him alone. Joel's father is a builder and does not make enough money to pay for school fee's, so he brought Joel to the project to hopefully find a sponsor to support Joel. 

Joel is in middle class (similar to American preschool). His favorite subject is reading. When he grows up he says he would like to become a driver. When Joel is not in school he enjoys playing soccer and running with his friends.
